Odisha Coal Gasification Project Set to Meet 35% of India’s Ammonium Nitrate Demand by 2030

Bhubaneswar: A major coal gasification project in Odisha is expected to play a transformative role in India’s industrial and mining sectors by meeting nearly 35% of the country’s ammonium nitrate requirements by 2030, according to industry estimates. The project is being viewed as a significant step toward enhancing domestic production capabilities and reducing dependence on imports of key industrial chemicals.

Ammonium nitrate is a critical raw material widely used in mining, infrastructure development, construction, and explosives manufacturing. Industry experts believe that the Odisha-based project will strengthen supply security while supporting the growing demand generated by India’s expanding mining and infrastructure sectors.

The coal gasification initiative is also aligned with the government’s broader strategy to promote value-added utilization of domestic coal resources. By converting coal into synthesis gas and downstream chemical products, the project aims to improve resource efficiency and support the development of a self-reliant industrial ecosystem.

Officials and industry stakeholders have highlighted the project’s potential to generate employment, attract investment, and stimulate economic growth in Odisha. The development is expected to create opportunities across the chemical, fertilizer, mining, logistics, and manufacturing sectors.

As India accelerates investments in infrastructure, energy, and mineral development, the Odisha coal gasification project is projected to become a key contributor to the country’s industrial supply chain and long-term economic growth.
