Coal India Invests ₹961 Crore in Solar Power to Accelerate Net-Zero Goals

Coal India Ltd. has invested ₹961 crore in expanding its solar power portfolio as part of its strategic push towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions. The investment underscores the state-owned miner’s commitment to transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, aligning with national and global climate objectives.

The funds are being directed towards setting up new solar power projects and enhancing existing capacities across multiple states. Coal India aims to significantly increase its renewable energy footprint in the coming years, leveraging solar generation to reduce its carbon intensity and support India’s broader emissions reduction targets.

By tapping into solar energy, the company also seeks to diversify its revenue streams and reduce dependence on coal, which has been the backbone of its business.
