New Delhi: The Central Government has launched the seventh round of critical mineral block auctions, offering 10 mineral blocks across multiple states as part of its strategy to strengthen India’s resource security and reduce dependence on imports of key minerals.
The latest auction round includes blocks containing critical minerals such as lithium, graphite, rare earth elements (REEs), phosphorite, and other strategic resources that are essential for clean energy technologies, electric vehicles, advanced electronics, renewable energy systems, and defense manufacturing.
The Ministry of Mines stated that the initiative is aimed at accelerating domestic exploration and production of critical minerals, which have become increasingly important amid rising global competition for resources required in the energy transition and high-tech manufacturing sectors.
The auction process is part of the government’s broader critical minerals mission, which seeks to create a resilient domestic supply chain and ensure long-term availability of strategic raw materials. India currently imports a significant portion of its critical mineral requirements, making domestic resource development a key national priority.
Officials noted that the auctioned blocks are expected to attract strong interest from mining companies, metal producers, and investors looking to participate in India’s rapidly growing mineral and clean energy ecosystem. The government has introduced several policy reforms in recent years to encourage private-sector participation, simplify regulatory procedures, and speed up project development.
Industry experts believe that successful development of these mineral blocks could help support India’s ambitious targets for electric mobility, battery manufacturing, renewable energy deployment, and advanced technology production. The move is also expected to generate employment opportunities and boost economic activity in mineral-rich regions.
The seventh round of auctions follows earlier successful rounds that have expanded India’s pipeline of critical mineral projects. As global demand for lithium, graphite, cobalt, and rare earth elements continues to rise, the government is positioning the country to become a more significant player in the global critical minerals value chain.
With the latest auction of 10 critical mineral blocks, India continues to advance its efforts to secure strategic resources and build a robust foundation for future industrial and technological growth.
