Centre Has Coal Reserves for 80 Days of Power Generation, Says Union Minister Kishan Reddy
New Delhi – Union Coal and Mines Minister Kishan Reddy has stated that the country currently possesses sufficient coal reserves to support approximately 80 days of power generation, highlighting the government’s efforts to ensure energy security amid rising electricity demand.
Speaking on the status of the nation’s coal sector, the minister emphasized that coal stocks at power plants and mining facilities remain healthy, providing a strong buffer against supply disruptions. He noted that continuous monitoring and coordinated planning between coal producers and power utilities have helped maintain adequate inventory levels across the country.
India’s thermal power sector, which relies heavily on coal-based generation, plays a critical role in meeting the nation’s growing electricity requirements. With industrial activity, infrastructure development, and increasing household consumption driving demand, ensuring uninterrupted fuel availability remains a key priority for the government.
Kishan Reddy said that domestic coal production has witnessed steady growth in recent years, supported by expansion projects, technological improvements, and enhanced operational efficiency at mining sites.
