India Must Accelerate Domestic Resource Production Amid Global Supply Risks, Says Vedanta

New Delhi: Vedanta has called for faster development of domestic natural resource production, warning that rising global supply chain risks could impact India’s industrial growth and economic security.

The company stressed the importance of increasing local production of critical minerals, metals, and energy resources as geopolitical tensions, export restrictions, and global market uncertainties continue to disrupt international supply chains.

According to Vedanta, India’s growing manufacturing sector and infrastructure expansion will significantly increase demand for key resources such as copper, aluminium, zinc, oil, gas, and rare minerals in the coming years. The company believes reducing dependence on imports is essential for long-term economic stability.

Industry experts say global competition for critical minerals has intensified due to the rapid growth of electric vehicles, renewable energy projects, semiconductor manufacturing, and advanced technologies. Several countries are now prioritising domestic mining and resource security strategies to avoid supply disruptions.

Vedanta highlighted the need for faster approvals, improved exploration policies, investment support, and modern mining infrastructure to strengthen India’s resource sector. The company also emphasised sustainable mining practices and technological innovation as part of future growth plans.

Analysts note that India’s push for self-reliance in critical resources could play a major role in supporting industrial development, energy transition goals, and strategic economic resilience amid changing global trade dynamics.
