Panel Clears Coal Supply for Torrent Power’s Gujarat Replacement Power Plant

New Delhi: A government panel has approved the allocation of coal supply for Torrent Power‘s replacement thermal power plant in Gujarat, paving the way for the project to move forward and ensuring a stable fuel source for electricity generation.

The approval is expected to support the replacement of an older generating unit with a more efficient and environmentally compliant facility. Securing long-term coal linkage is considered essential for maintaining reliable power production and reducing uncertainties related to fuel procurement.

The replacement project forms part of broader efforts to modernize India’s thermal power infrastructure while improving operational efficiency and meeting rising electricity demand. Industry experts believe the new plant will help enhance power reliability in Gujarat and contribute to the state’s growing energy requirements.

The decision also aligns with the government’s focus on ensuring adequate domestic coal supplies for power producers to avoid fuel shortages and maintain uninterrupted electricity generation. Once operational, the upgraded plant is expected to deliver improved efficiency and lower emissions compared to the older unit it replaces.

The coal linkage approval marks a key milestone for the project, enabling Torrent Power to proceed with the next phases of development and commissioning while strengthening the region’s long-term energy security.
