Lynas Partners with South Korean Magnet Maker to Supply Malaysia Factory

Kuala Lumpur: Lynas Rare Earths has signed a supply agreement with a South Korean magnet manufacturer to support the production of permanent magnets at a new factory in Malaysia, strengthening the global supply chain for critical minerals.

Under the agreement, Lynas will provide processed rare earth materials used in the manufacture of high-performance permanent magnets, which are essential components in electric vehicles, wind turbines, consumer electronics, and advanced defence technologies.

The partnership is expected to enhance Malaysia’s role as a regional hub for rare earth processing and magnet manufacturing while helping diversify global supply chains beyond traditional sources. It also aligns with increasing international efforts to secure stable supplies of critical minerals amid growing demand from clean energy and high-tech industries.

Industry analysts say the collaboration reflects the rising importance of strategic partnerships across the rare earth value chain as governments and manufacturers seek reliable sources of materials needed for the global energy transition.

The deal is expected to support long-term production capacity, encourage further investment in Southeast Asia’s advanced manufacturing sector, and strengthen Lynas’ position as one of the world’s leading suppliers of rare earth materials outside China
