New Delhi, October 26, 2026: Shares of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), a subsidiary of Coal India, surged around 5% in Monday’s trading session after the company reported a strong financial turnaround in the second quarter of the financial year 2026–27 (Q2 FY27). The company’s return to profitability, coupled with a significant increase in revenue, boosted investor sentiment.
The stock climbed 5.15% to ₹31.29 during the session as investors reacted to the company’s September-quarter results.
Bharat Coking Coal Reports ₹123.7 Crore Net Profit
Bharat Coking Coal reported a net profit of ₹123.74 crore in Q2 FY27, reversing a net loss of ₹52.99 crore recorded in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.
The company had also reported a net loss of ₹68.09 crore in the first quarter of FY27, making the latest results a significant improvement in its financial performance.
Revenue from operations increased by approximately 39% year-on-year to ₹4,412.58 crore in the September quarter, compared with ₹3,173.25 crore in the same period last year.
Higher Coal Sales and Prices Support Revenue Growth
The company’s improved performance was supported by higher coal dispatches and stronger realisations from washed coking coal.
Outside coal dispatches increased to approximately 8.93 million tonnes during the quarter, compared with 8.03 million tonnes in the year-ago period. The average price of washed coking coal also increased to ₹12,681 per tonne from ₹9,437 per tonne.
These factors, along with performance incentive and compensation income, contributed to the substantial increase in quarterly revenue.
Production and Coal Offtake Increase
Bharat Coking Coal recorded coal production of 7.22 million tonnes in Q2 FY27, compared with 6.71 million tonnes in the corresponding quarter last year.
Coal offtake, which measures the volume of coal dispatched to customers, rose to 8.89 million tonnes from 8.11 million tonnes a year earlier.
However, the company’s production during the first half of FY27 declined to 13.78 million tonnes from 15.75 million tonnes in the corresponding period of FY26. The decline in half-year production remains an important operational factor to monitor despite the improvement in quarterly performance.
EBITDA Returns to Positive Territory
The company also reported a significant improvement in operating performance. According to reported quarterly figures, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) reached approximately ₹200 crore, compared with an EBITDA loss of ₹383 crore in the year-ago quarter.
The EBITDA margin improved to approximately 4.5%, against a negative margin of 12.1% in the corresponding quarter last year. The recovery indicates improved operating performance amid higher sales realisations and increased coal dispatches.
What Lies Ahead for Bharat Coking Coal?
Bharat Coking Coal’s latest results highlight the potential benefits of improved coal pricing, higher dispatch volumes and better operating efficiency. As a key domestic supplier of coking coal used in steel production, the company plays an important role in India’s coal and steel supply chains.
Going forward, investors will monitor coal production, sales realisations, operating costs and the sustainability of profit growth. The decline in first-half production also highlights the importance of maintaining consistent operational performance.
Although the latest results have supported a short-term rally in the stock, future share-price performance will depend on the company’s financial results, operating conditions and broader market sentiment.
