Community Blockade Keeps Endeavour Silver’s Mexican Mine Shut

Jalisco, Mexico: Operations at Endeavour Silver’s Terronera mine in Jalisco, Mexico, remain suspended following a community blockade that has disrupted the company’s silver mining activities for more than a week. The blockade began on August 12 and has remained peaceful, according to the company.

Members of a nearby Ejido community are seeking action on several local concerns, including road maintenance, medical services, communications, access and control of water supplies, and increased financial assistance.

Endeavour Silver has kept a reduced workforce at the site to maintain safety and security systems, while the mine remains accessible for essential maintenance activities. The company said it is continuing discussions with community leaders in an effort to resolve the dispute and restore normal operations.

The company has also indicated that it could pursue legal remedies if the blockade continues. The prolonged suspension could create operational and financial challenges for Terronera, particularly if negotiations fail to produce a quick resolution.

The incident highlights the importance of community relations for mining companies operating in Mexico and other resource-rich regions, where local infrastructure, environmental and economic concerns can affect mine operations.
