- Strong duo — alongside the all-electric ID. Tiguan, the world’s best-selling Tiguan will continue to be available with combustion and hybrid powertrains
Volkswagen is continuing its naming strategy with its next model: following the ID. Polo and ID. Cross, the new ID. Tiguan will arrive at the markets in the beginning of 2027. The established name is intended to provide customers with clear orientation and stands as a strong product brand for a clearly defined vehicle concept. The new ID. Tiguan will succeed the ID.4 and ID.5 and will be offered alongside the Tiguan with combustion and hybrid powertrains. The world premiere of the ID. Tiguan will take place in early October. Until then, the model will continue testing under camouflage wrap.
Thomas Schäfer, CEO Volkswagen Brand, Head of Brand Group Core and Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG: “More than 8.3 million Tiguan vehicles produced demonstrate the strength and trust associated with this model name. The Tiguan represents a versatile, premium vehicle and embodies the essence of True Volkswagen. With the ID. Tiguan, we are carrying this product promise into the electric future. The all-electric model builds on the strengths of the bestseller and offers premium design, generous space, intuitive operation and innovative technologies. Together, both models form a strong offering for our customers’ different powertrain preferences.”
A strong product brand. The importance of SUVs in this segment for Volkswagen is illustrated by the following figures: The Tiguan is currently the best-selling model worldwide for both the Volkswagen brand and the Volkswagen Group. In the past year alone, deliveries of the Tiguan and its sister model, the Tayron, exceeded one million units. Both models are available with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains. In the all-electric segment, the ID.4 and its fastback counterpart, the ID.5, are also highly successful. With more than 950,000 units delivered since 2021, they rank among the most successful battery-electric vehicle (BEV) model series of Volkswagen AG.
