NIO’s sales continue to rise in 2026. Well, there is one area where they were very barely down in August — comparing sales month over month. Otherwise, though, they continue to be solidly up, even if not dramatically so.
The company’s sales rose 14.5% year over year last month. The company scored 35,836 deliveries, compared to 31,305 in August 2025. It was NIO’s 7th best month ever. Though, the three previous months had higher sales — 37,705 in May, 40,597 in June, and 35,934 in July. So, was August a good month or not a good one? I’ll let you decide.
Across the first 8 months of the year overall, NIO’s sales were clearly strong. Totaling 262,893 deliveries, the company’s numbers were up 57.9% year over year — from 166,472 across the same period in 2025.
As far as how the company’s sales broke down by brand in August, here are the details:
- NIO — 21,174 (59.1%)
- ONVO — 8,810 (24.6%)
- FIREFLY — 5,852 (16.3%)
The company also continued to roll out its unique EV infrastructure. “On August 7, 2026, NIO inaugurated its 4,000th total and first fifth-generation battery swap station, marking the official integration of the FIREFLY brand into NIO Power’s battery swap network. The fifth-generation station offers significantly enhanced compatibility across all models under the NIO, ONVO and FIREFLY brands, while NIO’s expanding charging and battery swap network continues to generate scale effects and support vehicle sales growth.”
Here’s a little more bragging from NIO: “On August 21, 2026, the NIO All-New ES8 reached 140,000 cumulative deliveries, just 335 days after deliveries began. From January to July 2026, the NIO ES8 ranked No. 1 in cumulative sales in both the large SUV segment and the segment priced above RMB400,000 in China. With its compelling all-scenario product experience, the NIO ES8 continues to strengthen NIO’s leadership in the premium BEV SUV market.”
By the end of the month, as the clock struck midnight last night, NIO had reached 1,260,485 cumulative deliveries. Even if the company folded tonight, that would be quite an achievement, and would provide a significant cut to CO2 emissions. But the company won’t fold tonight. It’s been on a strong path toward long-term profitability, and it continues marching on that path.
To end, continuing on with my ongoing comparison of NIO and XPENG sales, here’s the chart covering them both:
XPENG had 39,107 deliveries in August, compared to NIO’s 35,836. With NIO seeing a much strong sales increase year over year, they are almost neck and neck again.
