Odisha to Get Critical Mineral Processing Park at Paradip to Boost Value Addition

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is set to establish a Critical Mineral Processing Park at Paradip, marking a significant step towards strengthening India’s critical minerals value chain and reducing dependence on imported processed minerals. The proposed park is expected to enhance domestic processing capacity for strategically important minerals used in clean energy, electric vehicles, electronics, and defence manufacturing.

The processing park will leverage Paradip’s strategic coastal location, world-class port infrastructure, and robust industrial ecosystem to facilitate the import of raw materials and export of value-added mineral products. The initiative is aligned with the Centre’s vision of developing a self-reliant supply chain for critical minerals essential to emerging technologies.

The project is expected to attract substantial investments from domestic and international companies engaged in mineral processing, advanced metallurgy, and downstream manufacturing. It will also create employment opportunities, promote technology transfer, and support the growth of ancillary industries in the region.

Industry experts believe the park will play a key role in processing minerals such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, graphite, and rare earth elements, which are vital for battery manufacturing, renewable energy systems, semiconductors, and aerospace applications.

The initiative reinforces Odisha’s position as India’s leading mineral-rich state and complements ongoing efforts to expand the state’s industrial base through value addition rather than the export of raw minerals. Once operational, the Critical Mineral Processing Park is expected to strengthen India’s mineral security and support the country’s transition towards a clean energy and advanced manufacturing economy.
