Sunshine Silver Mining & Refining Files for US IPO to Restart Idaho Silver Mine

Sunshine Silver Mining & Refining Company has filed for an initial public offering in the United States as the company seeks to raise capital for restarting its historic Sunshine mining complex in Idaho and expanding its critical minerals operations.

The company plans to list on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “SSMR,” according to regulatory filings and company announcements.

Sunshine Silver is developing the permitted Sunshine complex in Idaho’s Silver Valley, with plans to resume silver production by 2028. The project is also expected to produce antimony, copper, and lead as by-products, positioning the company within the growing US critical minerals supply chain.

The IPO filing comes at a time when investor interest in mining and critical minerals companies is increasing due to geopolitical tensions, supply chain concerns, and rising demand for metals linked to clean energy and defense industries. However, analysts noted that broader IPO market conditions remain volatile amid global economic uncertainty.

The Sunshine project is considered strategically important because it includes both mining and refining capabilities. The company has highlighted plans to develop what it describes as a vertically integrated US hub for silver and critical minerals processing, including antimony refining capacity.

Morgan Stanley, Scotiabank, and BMO Capital Markets are serving as the joint lead book-running managers for the offering.

Industry experts said the listing could attract strong investor attention as governments and manufacturers increasingly seek domestic sources of strategic minerals to reduce reliance on overseas suppliers, particularly China. Antimony, one of the metals targeted by the company, is widely used in defense systems, semiconductors, batteries, and flame retardants.

Sunshine Silver has previously secured financing to support development of the Idaho project and has continued advancing exploration, refining infrastructure, and feasibility work ahead of the planned production restart.
