Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has announced a key leadership transition with Shri Jose VJ, Director (Finance), assuming additional charge as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the company. The appointment came into effect on 1 February 2026, following the superannuation of the outgoing CMD, Shri Madhu Sankunny Nair, who completed his tenure on 31 January 2026.

The interim arrangement has been made to ensure continuity in leadership and strategic direction at a time when CSL is executing multiple high-value projects across defence, commercial shipbuilding, and ship repair segments. Shri Jose VJ will hold the additional charge for a limited period or until further orders, as per government directions.

A senior executive with decades of experience within Cochin Shipyard, Shri Jose VJ has played a pivotal role in strengthening the company’s financial architecture and governance framework. Since joining CSL in the mid-1990s, he has been closely associated with financial planning, cost optimisation, capital allocation, risk management, and digital systems, contributing significantly to the company’s sustained profitability and balance-sheet strength.

His elevation comes at a strategically important phase for CSL, which continues to expand its footprint in indigenous defence shipbuilding, advanced commercial vessels, and global ship repair markets. The company has also been increasingly aligning its operations with sustainability goals, energy efficiency measures, and adoption of new-age maritime technologies.

Shri Jose VJ’s appointment reflects CSL’s commitment to long-term strategic growth and positioning India as a key player in the global shipbuilding and maritime ecosystem. Under his leadership, the company is expected to sharpen its focus on operational excellence, enhance project execution capabilities, and explore new opportunities in defence production, green shipping solutions, and high-value commercial shipbuilding.

CSL’s management and workforce have expressed confidence that this leadership transition will provide stability and momentum to ongoing initiatives. With a strong order book and expanding capabilities, the company aims to further its mission of strengthening India’s maritime capacity while reinforcing its reputation as a globally competitive shipyard driven by innovation and sustainability.
